Carolina Shine Moonshine Experience!

Join your KNN neighbors on a full day excursion aboard an iconic steam train journey through the scenic Great Smoky Mountains.
This year’s excursion will be the Carolina Shine Moonshine Experience – ride in a vintage rail car, enjoy lunch, and sample Carolina Moonshine. The Carolina Shine, GSMR’s All-Adult First-Class Moonshine Car! GSMR will be proudly serving hand crafted, triple-distilled, craft moonshine. Some of the smoothest tasting moonshine in the Carolinas!
Offered on the Nantahala Gorge excursion, this shine and dine experience begins in a renovated First-Class train fleet car, The Carolina Shine. The interior features copper lined walls filled with the history of moonshining in North Carolina. Passengers will also enjoy a full service All-Adult First-Class ride with an attendant and their popular Cajun seasoned Pulled Pork BBQ with Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce cooked in special spices and slow roasted to perfection!
It is sure to be a KNN highlight of the year and there are only 32 tickets available. Ride the KNN reserved bus to Bryson City, NC and board the Carolina Shine for a unique and very fine day on moonshine express!

- Nantahala Gorge Excursion (Steam Engine Service) in the Moonshine Experience
- Gather at KCC Lower Parking Lot - 7:30 AM
- Bus service in the Trolley Company's 32 person Krystal Coach
- Depart for Bryson City - 7:45 AM, arriving ~9:30 AM traffic depending
- Train Boarding - 10:00 AM
- Train Departure - 10:30 AM
- Train Return to Bryson City - 3:00 PM
- Return arrival to Kenmure ~5:00 PM, traffic depending
- Group size: 32 reserved seats in the Carolina Shine First-Class Car
- All participants are required to use the provided bus service
Cost: Each ticket is $131and includes the Carolina Shine excursion and bus fare to and from Bryson City.
Payment requirements: Pre-payment is required to reserve your space. Once you have completed the on-line registration for the event, you will receive a "registration received pending pre-payment" email from the KNN email system. Please follow the pre-payment instructions in that email including submitting the pre-payment by the due date to assure your space is confirmed.
Please do not drop your envelope at the Front Gate as due to COVID concerns, traffic volume and staffing shortages the KPOA has temporarily stopped accepting drop-offs at the Front Gate House
Participant Cancellation policy: Great Smoky Mountains Railroad requires final payment July 15. In line with the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Cancellation Policy, participant cancellations made between July 15 and July 29 will receive a refund less $28 ($14 GSMR and $14 bus) unless a replacement participant is secured from the waitlist or by other means.
Cancellations made after July 29 will not be refunded unless a replacement participant is secured from the waitlist or by other means.
Health and Safety: Great Smoky Mountains Railroad has ended all passenger COVID related requirements. Masks are optional and at the participants discretion.
Participation limit for this event is 32.
KNN members will be prioritized first before we open this event up to guests.
Once participation limits are reached, we will utilize a waitlist for the event.
You are encouraged to sign-up early. Registration closes July 9.
Please note: Completion of the registration form is not a confirmation that you will be able to participate. Once registered you will receive an email requesting the required pre-payment and giving the due date for pre-payment. The pre-payment amount required must be received prior to the due date. Once pre-payment is recorded, you will receive your event confirmation email.
Also, please be sure to register via the on-line KNN system. A link is provided in the announcement email. Participant sign-up order is determined by the order in which participants register on-line via the KNN system. Skipping the on-line registration and just sending a check for the event may not assure your participation.
